Summer is here and many people will be enjoying the sun at the lake, pool or during other outdoor activities. Make sure you stay safe while you’re in the sun by following these tips...
- Try to stay in the shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun is the strongest.
- Don’t burn! Always use sunscreen with at least a 15 SPF. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with 30 SPF or higher. Apply one ounce of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
- Cover up with clothing - this includes swim coverups, sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats.
- Keep newborns out of the sun. If they’re 6 months old or older, use a sunscreen on them and also protect them by shade and clothing. Children are very sensitive to ultraviolet radiation.
- Have fun!!
