Winter Activities to Do in Jacksonville

During the winter, families seem to always scramble for activities to do during the cold months. Stay warm by taking a short trip to Jacksonville to enjoy these fun places for the whole family.

Jacksonville Museum of Military History

This is the perfect place for any history buff, with exhibits highlighting U.S. military history, some of which took place right here in Jacksonville. The museum covers all major wars and includes a theater area, interactive displays, memorabilia and a gift shop.

Each display will help you better understand how the conflicts affected not only the world, but the local area as well.

Admission for adults is $3 and children ages 6-17 is $1. Children 5 and under are free.

Jacksonville Guitar Museum

If you enjoy playing the guitar, you might want to check out the Jacksonville Guitar Museum. The museum includes vintage Martin, Gibson and Fender guitars and amps along with a comprehensive collection of cowboy guitars. Other items on display include memorabilia from Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.

Owner Steve Evens has a vast knowledge of guitar history and will provide an in-depth tour of the museum.

Admission to the museum is free and visitors of all ages are welcomed.

Arkansas Game & Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex

For parents of older children, a day at the shooting range might be the perfect fit this winter. This $4 million state-of-the-art public shooting range is the largest of its kind in the state. It includes 14 trap fields, three skeet overlays, three lighted fields, an archery range, two pavilions, a stocked lake and a 5,100 square foot clubhouse with classroom.

Fees for shooting including clay targets:

  • $6 per person per round for skeet or trap (25 shot round).
  • $5 per person per round for Jacksonville residents (proof of residence required at sign in).
  • $3 per person per round for all AYSSP students.
